Westchester is a neighborhood of stately homes and mature trees located in West Houston's Energy Corridor south of I-10 between Memorial Drive and Terry Hershey Park. Well regarded for its convenient location, outstanding SBISD schools, and quiet, tree-lined streets, the neighborhood continues to be popular.
Professionals and their families are drawn to it not only for its upscale ambiance, but also its easy access to major thoroughfares and quick commutes to the Galleria or downtown, its excellent area shopping and dining, and the neighborhood’s own fine amenities.
Native oaks and pines help give it a quiet, natural appeal and Terry Hershey Park provides a beautiful setting for nature studies or walking, jogging and biking on its lighted trails. Residents can swim or play tennis at the neighborhood’s facilities located at Pinesap and Chadbourne, which include two, lighted tennis courts; a large, newly renovated swimming pool with diving area, bathing and dressing rooms; and a covered pavilion. For golfers, Lakeside Country Club is nearby, as are the excellent public courses in Memorial or Bear Creek Parks.
In addition to other highly rated SBISD schools in the vicinity, The Westchester Academy for International Studies, located a short distance away, is an SBISD charter school offering small, personalized classes for students in grades 6-12 who choose to specialize in languages and international affairs.
One fine example of the Westchester sense of community is its women’s club, a neighborhood’s social organization. Originally formed in 1969 as the Westchester Garden Club, the organization plans monthly programs and activities to enrich the lives of members and serve the community. Funds raised from its projects and activities are donated to other organizations that serve the surrounding Memorial area.
